(LOS ANGELES, CA – Tuesday, January 16) Following the January 3rd announcement of US expansion into (33) markets by 2028, today, league officials are announcing international expansion of the sport.
International single games, tours as well as league play dating back to 2012, have tested very well for the LFL, games have drawn as many as 22,400 spectators while attracting national television agreements. League officials have been in active talks for the past two-years, meeting with prospective international media and investment partners as well as arena / stadium groups across Canada, Australia and Europe, developing a strategy leading up to today’s announcement.
Test seasons with LFL Canada and LFL Australia in 2012 and 2013, respectively, drew successful results, which are believed to have been the catalysts for launching international expansion of the sport.
“An exciting growth period is upon us over the next 10 years, not only here in the States but in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Europe. We have already taken on partnerships and will look to further build out our network of strategic groups around the world to aid in this daunting, yet incredibly exciting opportunity, to truly become a global sports franchise by 2028”, said Mitchell S. Mortaza, Chairman, Legends Football League (LFL).
Between 2018 and 2022, the LFL will continue to host international exhibition matches around the world with a focus on its growth markets. The build out of teams will begin in 2020 in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.
The league will be meeting with and taking on investment partners that will own LFL teams within each of the international operating bodies, similar to the individual team ownership model the LFL has introduced in the States as of January 2018.
