(Austin, TX- Friday, May 20, 2016)

The game between the Dallas Desire and the Austin Acoustic has been ordained the “Texas Bowl”. As this is expected to become one of the best rivalries in the LFL, not much trash talk has come from players on either team leading up to this weekend.

“We have a very good relationship with the Desire as a whole” says Michelle Marshall who spent last weekend enjoying the company of a few teammates as they focused on a lot of football. It appears most of the dialog is between fans hyping about whether the north or south end of the ‘I-35’ rivalry has the better team this season.

Both Austin and Dallas are looking to prove themselves in the league and gain also gain the recognition as the best football team in the state of Texas. During a Coach Harris interview this week, the first year head coach stated “Football is king in Texas. The Texas Bowl is as important to me as all of our games are.”

There was no special focus for the team’s practice this week leading up to this face-off with the other Texas bunch. Coach Harris noted that Dallas’ size is a key area for preparation of his defense and emphasized that his team will need to a great job of wrapping up and swarming to the ball until the referee’s whistle is heard.

Quarterback Teshay Winfrey, like Coach Harris, views this game with the same regard as every other game, noting each game is critical for getting to the playoffs. The stand-out rookie is determined to help her Acoustic earn a spot in the playoffs this season. Her performance this season already has her in talks of Rookie-of-the-Year nomination. Winfrey’s passer rating is currently 84.8 only behind Michelle Angel’s 94.4 passer rating, and she has impressively completed fifty percent of her passes through two games (19 of 38). Winfrey has thrown for a total of 154 yards, with four touchdowns and only one interception so far in her rookie campaign.

With a win on Saturday, the Acoustic would be standing at a record of 2-1 with only one game remaining in the regular season against LA on June 11th. Winning the first ‘Texas Bowl’ would be a great accomplishment for the Acoustic, but reaching the playoffs in their first season is certainly their primary goal.
