(Chicago, IL – Wednesday, April 6, 2016)
Former defensive end for the Chicago Bliss Nneka Nwani has been released from the team, a decision that was made two weeks ago. Nwani was cut due to her frequent absence from team practice and film sessions. According to Bliss head-coach Keith Hac, Nwani was notified numerous times that her lack of availability wouldn’t be accepted by the coaching staff. “She knew what was coming, she just couldn’t make the commitment” said Hac.
Nwani was a veteran player who provided a lot for the Bliss defense. She was a key part of their dominant defense during the championship run over the past three years. In 2015 Nwani recorded 23.5 tackles during the playoffs and regular season.
Although Nwani will be a big void to fill, the Bliss already feel they have the athlete to do just that. Rookie defensive lineman, Kristin Morrison, has had an amazing off-season and is expected to start for the season opener in Seattle on May 13th. Coach Hac showed his confidence in Morrsion, “We have a player (Morrison) who we think will be better than Nneka.”
Chicago will find out quickly if Morrison will be able to perform at a high level when they face Seattle, as the Mist have increased their offensive firepower and their OL is already one of the most physical in the LFL.
The Bliss home opener is Saturday, July 2nd at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL when they take on the Omaha Heart. Tickets Available Here
